Langila app · last updated: 27 August 2026
In one sentence: Langila saves your progress so it can give it back to you, contains no advertising and no analytics, and does not track you across any other service.
The game stays fully playable offline: your phone is the source of truth. What goes to our server is what is needed to restore your progress and to run the league, nothing else, and never to a third-party company.
1. Data we collect
Without an account, from the first launch
The app opens an anonymous identifier for you on our server. It holds no name, no email address, no phone number and no date of birth: it is a string of characters, nothing more. It exists so your progress can be attached to someone, and given back to you.
Attached to it, as you play: the puzzles you solve and the time you take, your stars, the words you win, your run of consecutive days, and the times that enter the league standings (§6).
If you sign in with Apple or Google
You are never required to, and the offer only appears after your first win. If you accept, we receive from the platform you chose your email address and the name it passes on. We keep them so you can sign back in and find your progress on another device.
Sign in with Apple lets you hide your real address; we then receive Apple's relay address, and that suits us.
The display name you choose for the league is visible to other players. It is the only part of your account that is; your email address never is.
What our server necessarily sees
Like any server, ours sees the IP address the app connects from: that is what lets it answer. It appears in technical logs, where it serves security and fault diagnosis. We do not use it to locate you, to build a profile, or to recognise you from one session to the next.
What we do not collect
No advertising identifier, no location data, no contacts, no photos, no measurement of how you use the app. We do not know how long you play or which screens you open.
2. What stays on your phone
So the app can hand your game back where you left it, it saves locally, in the private storage your operating system reserves for the app:
- the puzzles you have solved, your best times and your stars;
- the words added to your personal dictionary;
- your display preferences, such as the interface language.
Your device is the source of truth: the game stays fully playable offline. A copy of this progress goes to our server when the network comes back, under the identifier described in §1, so you can find it again. The local copy is removed when you uninstall the app; the server copy is erased with your account.
Your display preferences, for their part, never leave your phone.
3. Reporting content
From the reveal screen or a word's dictionary entry, you can report a phrase, word or pronunciation that seems inaccurate. If you do, we receive: the reason you pick from a list, a free-text comment if you write one, the reference of the puzzle or word concerned, the app version, the current content lot, the language and platform you use, and your account id if you are signed in.
It serves one purpose only: fixing the content you reported. You give us this information voluntarily, through a deliberate action — nothing is sent unless you trigger it.
The free-text comment is erased twelve months after you send it. The reason, the target and the outcome of the report are kept beyond that, with no comment or identity attached: at that point it is no longer personal data, only an editorial record of what was fixed. If you delete your account, the id linking a report to you disappears with it, immediately. For any other erasure request, write to dpo@langila.app.
4. Advertising and tracking
There is none. Langila contains no advertising SDK, reads no advertising identifier and shares no information for targeting purposes. The app does not track you across other apps or websites.
5. Analytics
There are none. We do not know how long you play, which puzzles you open, or whether you open the app at all.
6. Third parties and hosting
Our servers are machines we rent from Hostinger, physically located in Paris, France. Your data therefore stays inside the European Union. The host provides the machine; it does not operate what runs on it.
The data itself is our own: your progress (§1, §2) and your content reports (§3) are received by our own infrastructure and are passed to no outside company. They are never used for targeting or resold. We do not sell or rent any data.
Two exceptions. If you sign in, Apple or Google acts as your identity provider: that platform knows you signed in to Langila, and applies its own policy. Apple and Google are US companies: what signing in tells them leaves the European Union, under their own safeguards. You are never required to.
And as soon as you solve the daily challenge without a hint, your time enters the standings for the week, where other players can see it. Your display name goes with it if you have set one; without a display name your row stays unnamed.
If you installed Langila from Apple's App Store or from Google Play, those platforms apply their own policies to downloads and updates. They are independent of us.
7. Children
Langila's content suits every age, but the app is intended for people aged 13 and over. It is not designed for children and is not aimed at them: it is aimed at those who want to find their parents' language again.
From a player aged 13 or over, we collect what §1 describes, no more and no less. We do not knowingly collect data about a child under 13. If you are a parent and believe a child under 13 has given us any, write to dpo@langila.app and we will erase it.
The game contains no chat between players and no links to social networks. The only thing another player can see of you is your standings display name, and you are not required to set one.
8. Your rights
The GDPR grants you rights of access, rectification, erasure and portability over any data we hold: your account and the progress attached to it (§1, §2), and your content reports (§3).
Deletion happens from within the app, in Settings, or from this page if you no longer have the app. It cannot be undone, and erasure follows within thirty days at the latest, backups included.
The legal basis for this processing is the performance of the service you asked for: without an identifier there is no progress to restore and no league.
The information kept on your device is under your sole control: uninstalling the app erases it permanently.
Write to dpo@langila.app to exercise any of these rights. If our answer does not satisfy you, you may lodge a complaint with the Commission nationale de l'informatique et des libertés (CNIL), the French supervisory authority we come under: cnil.fr.
9. Changes
This page will be updated if the app changes. The date of the last update appears at the top. Any new data collection would be clearly disclosed in the app before it begins — never afterwards.
